OK to leave AC Adapter plugged into electrical outlet 24/7?

 Hey everyone,

I was wondering if it is okay to leave the AC adapter plugged into the electrical outlet all the time, 24/7? Also, is it okay to leave the ac adapter plugged into the Dell Inspiron 600m all the time to0(although, the computer isn't powered on 24/7)?

 Thanks,

i have power adapters connected 24/7, always. Have had for years without any problem.

Ofcourse, it is safer to disconnect them when not used. Compaq had a power adapter for the E-series laptops that would melt.... only one series and they replaced those for free. But otherwise i have never ever heard of problems.

Power adapters use power, even when not in use. Just leave them plugged in and they will be mildly warm - that's power lost for no reason. Strange the adapters don't handle that better and switch off when not in use. It's like the standby function of your tv and vcr etc... they consume power even when not in use.

About leaving your Inspiron plugged in 24/7 : that's the best way to kill your battery. Best thing to do is regularly disconnecting AC power and let the notebook drain the battery. Next best thing if you wish to connect the laptop 24/7 is to remove the battery.

To keep the battery in top shape it is advisable to let the laptop run for some time on the battery before re-attaching the AC power.

hope this answers your questions.
